But you have to choose wisely. To maximize your ROI, buy a door that 1). Suits your home’s architectural style, and 2). Fits in with the neighborhood norms. For example, if most garage doors on your street are steel, choose a steel door, even if it has a faux wood overlay. It’s the price that matters. If you choose real wood in a steel-door neighborhood, you won’t get a good return on the much-higher cost of genuine wood compared with steel.
On the other hand, if your neighbors have high-end wood garage doors, and you go with steel, it could harm your home’s resale value if buyers think, “Hmm, we’re going to have to replace that garage door with a genuine wood door.”
Overhead Garage Door Options and Features
Below are details on some of the features available throughout the Overhead Garage Door collections. They
Insulation
Overhead Garage Door uses both polystyrene and polyurethane insulation depending on the collection. The Thermacore, Impression, and Courtyard Collections use a layer of foamed-in place polyurethane in various choices of thicknesses, sandwiched between two layers of steel.
As you compare garage door brands, you’ll find, as we did, that Overhead Door garage doors are among the best-insulated of any brand. We recommend considering one if your garage is climate controlled and/or your outside temperatures can be extreme.
Wind Resistance – WindStorm Doors
A wind-load rated door helps protect your garage and home in the event of a severe storm or high wind event. Overhead Door’s WindStorm doors are constructed with special components including tracks, jamb brackets, hinges, and re-enforced struts to withstand strong positive and negative pressure situations. You can also select impact rated glass for your garage door windows. These doors may qualify you for homeowner’s insurance discounts.
Overhear Garage Doors features wind-load rated doors through 3 of their profiles – Courtyard, Thermacore, and Traditional Steel. This Overhead Door brochure includes important ratings and specifications for each profile.
Optional Upgrades
Many of the collections offer a couple of upgrades you might want to consider if your garage door is going to be opened and closed multiple times per day.
- Commercial-grade track and hardware with 13 heavy-duty ball bearing rollers provide smooth, quiet operation.
- High-cycle spring option – a 25,000 cycle spring provides almost twice the lifespan of a torsion spring. A cycle is one opening and closing of the door.
